Due to the lack of evidence, fear of the people, and objection to these trials the government began to cut back on all these trials and set people free. This turn-around picked up momentum when the governor's wife at the time of the trials was accused of being a witch. This leads them to believe that people were being accused out of fear and that witches may not be real.
