Let x represent length of smallest piece.

We have been given that the longest piece is 13 inches longer than three times the smallest piece. So length of longest piece would be 3x+13.

The middle piece is 5 inches less than the longest piece. So length of middle piece would be 3x+13-5=3x+8.

We have been given that the length of pipe is 7 foot.

1 feet = 12 inches.

7 feet = 7*12 inches = 84 inches.

Now we will equate the sum of lengths of 3 pipes with 84 as:

x+3x+13+3x+8=84

Let us solve for x.

7x+21=84

7x+21-21=84-21

7x=63

\frac{7x}{7}=\frac{63}{7}

x=9

Length of middle piece would be 3x+8\Rightarrow 3(9)+8=27+8=35.

Therefore, the middle piece is 35 inches long.

Select 2 strategies that we can use to add 115+497
Gemiola [76]

Answer:

  B. Add 115+500 then subtract 3

  C. Add 112+500

Step-by-step explanation:

Any strategy that gives a sum of 612 will work. Strategy A gives a sum of 602, so is not useful.

The appropriate choices are B and C.

  B: 115 +497 = 115 +(500 -3) = (115 +500) -3

  C: 115 +497 = 115 +497 -3 +3 = (115 -3) +(497 +3) = 112 +500

Calculate the margin of error
Pepsi [2]

Answer:

The margin of error is 3.465

Step-by-step explanation:

Margin of error = t × sd/√n

n = 92, degree of freedom = n - 1 = 92 - 1 = 91, t-value corresponding to 91 degrees of freedom and 90% confidence level is 1.6618, sd = 20

Margin of error = 1.6618×20/√92 = 33.236/9.592 = 3.465

Answer:

Mike is not right

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

If two figures are similar, then the ratio of its surface areas is equal to the scale factor squared

Let

z----> the scale factor

x----> surface area of the enlarged rectangular prism

y-----> surface area of the original rectangular prism

z^{2}=\frac{x}{y}

so

In this problem we have

z=2

substitute

2^{2}=\frac{x}{y}

4=\frac{x}{y}

x=4y

so

The surface area of the enlarged rectangular prism is 4 times the surface area of the original rectangular prism

therefore

Mike is not right

<em>Verify with an example</em>

we have a rectangular prism

L=5\ m

W=2\ m

H=3\ m

The surface area of the prism is equal to

SA=2(LW)+(2L+2W)H

substitute the values

SA=2*(5*2)+(2*5+2*2)*3=62\ m^{2}

If he doubles each dimension of any rectangular prism

then

the new dimensions will be

L=5*2=10\ m

W=2*2=4\ m

H=3*2=6\ m

The new surface area will be

SA=2*(10*4)+(2*10+2*4)*6=248\ m^{2}

248/62=4

therefore

The surface area of the enlarged rectangular prism is 4 times the surface area of the original rectangular prism
