If homeostasis is not maintained, the cell dies. It is all about maintaining an equilibrium. For instance, if you have extremely low blood pressure, you die. Same goes for high blood pressure. Staying within a healthy range of blood pressure keeps you alive. Hence, maintaining homeostasis.
