A dominant trait can be described as the trait which masks the effect of a recessive trait. A recessive trait can be described as the trait which gets suppressed by a dominant trait.

Usually, a dominant allele is represented by a capital letter whereas a recessive allele is represented by a small letter. If both the alleles for a gene are dominant, ten both the alleles will be written in capital letters. For example, HH.
