Why is it important to stain youngcultures of bacteria with the grain stain?

Biology

Answer:

Because older cultures of gram-positive bacteria tend to lose their ability to retain crystal-violet in the peptidoglycan of their cell walls and can be confused with gram-negative bacteria.

Explanation:

Gram staining is used to differentiate between two major groups of bacteria. Gram-positive and gram-negative, these bacteria differ in the amount of peptidoglycan in their cell walls. Gram-positive bacteria have a higher amount of peptidoglycan, which absorbs the violet crystal complex used in gram staining, staining them purple/violet. Old cultures of gram-positive bacteria tend to lose the ability to retain the violet crystal and are stained by safranine, staining them red/pink and appear to be gram-negative.

Observations and inferences are important in science. How would you explain the differences between the two words?
Andrews [41]

Explanation:

when you Observe, you describe what you are seeing at the moment. so observation means seeing.

inference is the result you receive by observation.

for example, "I threw a stick and the dog ran after it and brought it back to me" this is an observation. you don't mention the reason why the dog brought you the stick. you just describe what happened!

but if you say, "the dog was trained to bring back the stick." you are mentioning the reason of the dog's behavior and that's inference.

You suggest that the presence of water could accelerate the growth of bread mold. This is a(an) Question 2 options:
Vladimir79 [104]

Answer: Hypothesis

Explanation:

A hypothesis is a proposed explanation for any phenomenon. The hypothesis is given before the experiment is being performed.

In this case the it is said that presence of water could accelerate the growth of mold.

This is a hypothesis because it has not been proved by the experiment it is just a proposed explanation which is given before the experiment.

This is known as the hypothesis which can be accepted if experimentally proved and can be rejected if not proved.

The only part of a triglyceride that can be used to make glucose (via gluconeogenesis) is the __________.
nexus9112 [7]

The only part of a triglyceride that can be used to make glucose (via gluconeogenesis) is the glycerol backbone.

A triglyceride is a type of fat. It consists of a glycerol backbone and three fatty acids attached to each of the hydroxyl group of the glycerol. High quantities of triglyceride can be harmful for the body, especially the heart. The normal range of triglycerides in the body should be less than 150 mg/dL.

Glycerol is  a three carbon structure consisting of three hydroxyl groups attached  to each carbon. It is of great importance for living organisms as it forms the backbone for various phospholipids and other lipid structures.
