A 15-lb block B starts from rest and slides on the 25-lb wedge A, which is supported by a horizontal surface. Neglecting frictio

n, determine (a) the velocity of B relative to A after it has slid 3 ft down the inclined surface of the wedge, (b) the corresponding velocity of A.

The angle of the wedge is 30°.

Answer:

5.88 ft/s

Explanation:

a) The block will slide down due to it's weight.

initial velocity u= 0

final velocity, v

acceleration, a = g sin 30° = 32 ft/s²× sin 30° = 16 ft/s²

Sliding displacement, s = 3ft

Use third equation of motion:

v^2-u^2 = 2as

substitute the values and solve for v

v^2-0 = 2\times 16 \times 3 =96 ft^2/s^2\\v = 9.8 ft/s

b) Use conservation of momentum:

Initial momentum of the system  = 0

final momentum = (15) ( 9.8)+ (25)(v')

v' = 5.88 ft/s

At what height h above the ground does the projectile have a speed of 0.5v?
maw [93]

Answer:

h=\dfrac{3v^2}{8g}

Explanation:

It is given that,

Speed of the projectile is 0.5 v. Let h is the height above the ground. Using the first equation of motion to find it.

v=u+at

v=u-gt

Initial speed of the projectile is v and final speed is 0.5 v.

0.5v=v-gt

t=\dfrac{v}{2g}

g is the acceleration due to gravity

Let h is the height above the ground. Using the second equation of motion as :

h=vt-\dfrac{1}{2}gt^2

h=v\dfrac{v}{2g}-\dfrac{1}{2}g(\dfrac{v}{2g})^2

h=\dfrac{3v^2}{8g}

So, the height of the projectile above the ground is \dfrac{3v^2}{8g}. Hence, this is the required solution.

Part A (4 pts) Consider light of wavelength λ = 670nm traveling in air. The light is incident at normal incidence upon a thin fi
s344n2d4d5 [400]

Answer:

Explanation:

On both sides of the film , the mediums have lower refractive index.

for interfering pattern from above , for constructive interference of reflected wave from both sides of the film , the condition is

2μt = ( 2n +1 ) λ / 2

μ is refractive index of film ,t is thickness of film λ is wavelength of light

n is order of fringe

for minimum thickness

n = 0

2μt =  λ / 2

t =  λ / 4μ

= 670 / 1.75 x 4

= 95.71 nm .

Find the equivalent resistance.
frosja888 [35]

Answer:

18 Ω

Explanation:

As K and F are at the same voltage, we can redraw the diagram as in figure 2

Series resistances add directly, so we get figure 3

Adding parallel resistances gets us to figure 4

Now we can move two 6Ω resistances for clarification in figure 5

As the voltage between C and J will be identically split between D and H, there will be no voltage drop across the middle 6Ω resister and no current through it, identical to an infinite resistance, so that 6Ω can be eliminated as in figure 6

Add series resistances to get to figure 7

Add parallel resistances to get to figure 8

Add series resistances to get to figure 9
