The main reason Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931 is because <em>it wanted raw materials and natural resources</em>. Japan was facing economic crises during the period due to high tariffs imposed on their goods by United States, China and other countries which were big markets for Japanese goods. Japan was trying to increase its industrial productivity and strength because trade what its economy’s main part. So, Japan assumed that the only way to face it was creating an empire by force and consequently attacked Manchuria on the excuse of sabotage of their railway line in Manchuria by Chinese army.

Trade is the backbone of any country economy so is the case was with Japan’s economy without which Japan even could not feed her people. It was very difficult for Japan to maintain an army.

So, Japan can come over by these hardships if they create an empire by force. So this was the reason that they attacked Manchuria on the pretext of destruction of Japan’s railway line in Manchuria by Chinese Army. Japanese invasion of Manchuria was on 18 September 1931 when Kwantung Army of Japan invaded Manchuria. Japan’s on going industrialization and militarization ensured dependence of oil and metal exports from U.S. and U.S. put sanctions on trade which thus prevented trade.
