Answer:

Width = 14 inches

Length = 42 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Length = 3 x width                  Width = 1/3 x length

First, construct a equation first using one of my formula on the top:

Length = 3 x width

2y + 6 = 3 ( y - 4 )           Distribute 3 to the values inside the ( )

2y + 6 =  3y - 12             Subtract 2y on both sides so there is only one

                                                             variable on one side

         6 = y -12                    Add 12 on both sides

        18 = y

Width = ( y - 4 ) in OR  18 - 4 or 14 inches

Length = ( 2y + 6 ) in OR  36 + 6 = 42 inches

Answer: Length=42 Width=14

Step-By-Step-Explanation:

You have to convert it into an equation to find the variable y

so 2y+6=3(y-4) which is equal to

    2y+6=3y-12 which is equal to

    18=y

When you substitute 18 for y in the equations you will find the length to be 42 and the width to be 14

Let A and B represent the number of hours that plans A and B last, respectively. Then the problem statement tells you
  7A +9B = 12
  5A +3B = 6

There are many ways this set of equations can be solved. I find it fairly simple to use a graphing calculator. The one shown tells me the workouts are each 3/4 of an hour.

Plan A lasts 45 minutes (3/4 hour)
Plan B lasts 45 minutes (3/4 hour)
