Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

x² + 11x + 24 = 0 , there are some guiding laws that need to be applied when using the completing the square method . There will be non time for me here to start discussing the laws, but will be explicity enough to be understood.

x² + 11x = 24

Now you add to both side of the equation the square of the half I'd the coefficient of x which is 11 and not coefficient of x² please note.

x² + 11x + (11/2)² = 24 + (11/2)²

We therefore have nothing to do with 11x.

x² + (11/2)² = 24 + 121/4

( x + 11/2 )² = 24 + 121/4 , now solve the expression on the right hand side fractionally. Which I believed you could solve now becomes

( x + 11/2 )² = 217/4

Now to solve for x, we revert back to the laws of indices by taking the square roots of both side

√( x + 11/2 )² = +/-√217/4

x + 11/2 = +/-√217

------

2

x = -11/2 +/- √217

------------------

2

x = -11 2 + 14.7/2 or -11/2 - 14.7/2

What is the proportion of the corresponding sides?
nordsb [41]

Answer:

1:5

Step-by-step explanation:

For this problem, you just have to evaluate the proportion of the length of the sides between triangles nmo and kml.

So LM = 12, which corresponds to OM = 60 (12 X 5 = 60)

KM = 10, which corresponds to NM = 50 (10 X 5 = 50)

I need to find the 9th term of this sequence
Sindrei [870]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

 26,244

Step-by-step explanation:

The sequence is geometric with a common ratio of -3. The general term is ...

 an = (a1)r^(n-1)

The first term is 4, so we have ...

 an = 4·(-3)^(n-1)

For n=9, we find the 9th term to be ...

 a9 = 4·(-3)^(9-1) = 4·3^8

 a9 = 26,244

_____

Additional comment

When -3 is raised to an even power, the sign of the product is positive, the same as 3 raised to that power.

Find the mean of the following 2x-5y,5x+2y,8x+6y,x-y
White raven [17]

Answer: 4x + 0.5y

Step-by-step explanation:

Concept:

Here, we need to understand the idea of the mean (average).

The "mean" is the "average" you're used to, where you add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of numbers.

If you are still confused, please refer to the attachment below for a graphical explanation.

Solve:

**Disclaimer** I assume the question is asking for the arithmetic mean instead of geometric. If it was, then you can refer to my answers. If it was not, then you can point it out and I will redo the question.

Terms: 2x-5y, 5x+2y, 8x+6y, x-y

Number of terms: 4

[(2x-5y) + (5x+2y) + (8x+6y) + (x-y)] / 4

=[2x + 5x + 8x + x + 2y - 5y + 6y - y] / 4

=[16x + 2y] / 4

=4x + 0.5y

Hope this helps!! :)
