They help in attaining the equilibrium at faster rates.

They do so by lowering the activation energy of the chemical reaction.

In absence of enzymes, the biochemical reactions would not take place at enough fast rates which are essential for the maintenance of life.

For example, in absence of enzymes rates of cellular respiration would not able to meet the energy demands of the cell.

Another example may include the absence of lactase makes the person lactose intolerant.
