the number of pens that each friend got by 9,the answer was equal to 63.her friend margo said that when the number of pens each friend got was multiplied by 9,the answer was equal to 63.which girls is correct?

Margo is correct since each girl got 7 pens and 9*7=63

The signs of the numbers in the problem matter because if a number is negative in the equation than you're answer could be negative.  ex. -3/9= -3   but if the negative sign wasn't there than the answer would be wrong bc the answer would be positive.
