Hey! Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address November 19th, 1863. The war then continued on til April 9th, 1865.
At the time in the 1920's, the Republican party had a straight run of three presidents; Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover. All three presidents shared the same ideology that the government should remain hands-off (or laissez-faire) towards the economy, being completely independent of it.
Since the economy was booming ever since World War I, there really was no need for any partial or heavy government influence in the economy. When the first signs of the Depression started to come around in the late 1920's, Herbert Hoover was the president. Growing up, he was a man who had done everything himself, and gotten out of man tough situations. With this mindset, he thought that the American people could do the same with the Depression, but was obviously very wrong. This was ultimately the last chance that the government had to avoid the Depression, and they missed it because of Hoover.
When the Depression was in full-swing, the only option for the American people was for the government to step in and help, and that was ultimately the reason for Franklin D. Roosevelt's success as president.
Hello there!
Your answer would be September 20, 1850.
On that day, Congress signed to abolish the slavery trade that was in the District of Columbia in a legislative package called the Compromise of 1850. Even though the slave trade has discontinued, the ownership of slaves continued since this law did not apply to slave ownership. Especially people that live in southern parts of the United States were not happy for things like this to happen, and they wouldn't like slavery to be abolished for good.
"What do the actions described in the box indicate about U.S. foreign policy?" Imperialistic savagery, you barely hear half of it, in reality the CIA used its shadows to kill thousands. Assassinated anyone that wasn't apart of their plan, and installed puppet governments. All the ''Free elections" during that time were set up to introduce the puppet leaders so the US could have a strangle hold over them. Yes, communism is inefficient, and ultimately was backwards and spent no time hearing the people. But forgetting what really happened is a step backwards, thousands died, the CIA having a very long line of bodies behind it.
I of course don't have all the answers, but here ya go, GL.
