Salvador Allende (1908-1973) was a President of Chile and a founding member of Chile’s Socialist Party. He became President of Chile on November 3, 1970, and from the beginning he supported the Chilean transformation to socialist practices, always respecting the liberty of the Chilean people. He affected many economic interests of foreign companies and was overthrown by a military coup led by Augusto Pinochet on September 11, 1973.
