How does Byron explain the conceit in "She Walks With Beauty"? What is the conceit?
Ahat [919]
Conceit in literary poems is a metaphor that compare two unlikely things. This extended metaphor will dominate a whole poem.

In Byron's "She Walks in Beaty", he compared the woman to the night. Her beauty and serenity to the beauty and serenity of nature.

Which one is NOT a metaphor?
Sedbober [7]

Answer:

My family is poor as dirt.

Explanation:

Let us first briefly discuss the metaphor. It's a figure of speech, a sort of indirect comparison where we describe something (an action or an object) in a figurative or symbolic way (not literally), but that way helps us make a connection or comparison between two things.

So, we compare two things, but not because they are similar, but because we want to attribute features of one thing to another and communicate an idea in that manner.

- The world is my stage: of course, the world can not be anyone's stage. The person only metaphorically states that he/she loves the world and feels comfortable in it like a performer on a stage. The person has so much to offer and show to other people as if on a stage.

-Adele has fire in her heart: of course, no one has a fire in his heart, but Adele acts in such manner; she's obviously very passionate, energetic, vital, active, ready to fight for her goals etc.

- Keep your eyes peeled for invaders: again, it's clear that no one will literally peel his eyes, but just as peeling a fruit means opening it, we should open our eyes and pay attention, stay alerted.

Only the first option isn't a metaphor, it's a simple, direct comparison, a simile, which is characterized by words "like", "as", "such as".
