How does gravity affect the movement of plates at mid-ocean ridges?

Convection currents push up on parts of the plate. Then gravity pulls on those areas, bringing them downward. And, as these areas move lower, the ridges then push the plates away and outward.

Over millions of years the remains become the carbon-rich coal, oil and gas we can use as fuel. When fossil fuels are burned they release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, thus contributes to global warming.
