Hello!

To solve this, you are trying to convert one side to a quadratic equation and the other to just 0. Then, solve the equation.

----

First, move the /2 to the other side of the equation.

(a+1)/2 = 1/a

a+1 = 2/a

Next, multiply both sides by a.

a+1 = 2/a

a^{2} +a=2

And then subtract both sides by 2. This will get you to a quadratic equation.

a^{2} +a=2

a^{2} +a-2=0

Now, factor the equation. When we're factoring, we are looking for the form (a + b)(a + c), where b + c must equal 1 (the coefficient of a) and b*c must equal -2. In this case, b = 2, and c = -1.

Therefore:

a^{2} +a-2=0

(a + 2)(a - 1) = 0

To get the answer, recall that anything multiplied by 0 is equal to 0. Therefore, to get the left side to equal 0, either (a + 2) or (a - 1) must equal 0. To do this, a must either be -2 or 1.

Therefore, a = -2, or a = 1.

----

Check your work:

(-2 + 1)/2 = 1/-2

-1/2 = -1/2

(1 + 1)/2 = 1/1

2/2 = 1/1

1 = 1

----

Hope this helps!

20 points.<br><br> Round off x to the nearest tenth.
Valentin [98]

Answer:

x=15.3

Step-by-step explanation:

In right triangles only:

The sine of an angle is equal to its opposite side divided by the hypotenuse. (o/h)

The cosine of an angle is equal to its adjacent side divided by the hypotenuse. (a/h)

The tangent of an angle is equal to its opposite side divided by its adjacent side. (o/a)

Therefore, we have the following equation:

\sin 58^{\circ}=\frac{x}{18},\\x=18\sin 58^{\circ}\approx \boxed{15.3}

Alternative:

\cos 32^{\circ}=\frac{x}{18},\\x=18\cos32^{\circ}\approx \boxed{15.3}

I'm not 100% sure if I am right, but for number 9 you would pick two points on , let's just say you pick points (0, 1) and (2, -2). Then you would find those points in the table. So in this case the answer would be D. And I'm not really sure how to explain #10 but you basically work out each problem with the graph to see if it makes sense. For example if you try working out problem F it wouldn't make sense since you start of with 10 dollars and earn 2 each day. But on the graph it shows that you are loosing two. Sorry if I didn't explain it right, if you have more questions let me know!
