What is a counterexample for "subtraction of whole numbers is commutative" ??

Mathematics

The commutatice property for addition says a+b=b+a
If it was for subtraction, then it would be a-b=b-a
Take a=7 and b=5
7-5 is not equal to 5-7
2 is not equal to -2
So subtraction is not commutative for whole numbers.

Hope this helps :)

A wall is 4 1/2 feet long and has an area of 15 3/4 square feet. What is its height in feet?
IRINA_888 [86]

Answer:

3 1/2

Step-by-step explanation:

if you multiply 4 and 3 you 12 if you multiply 1/2 times 3 you get 1 1/2 and 1 1/2 + 12 = 13 1/2 and then you have to find a fraction that when multiplied by 4 1/2 you get 2 1/4 and 4 1/2 × 1/2 = 2 1/4 so 2 1/4 + 13 1/2 = 15 3/4

O ALGEBRAIC EQUATIONS AND INEQUALITIES
laila [671]

Answer:

Mikhail is 50 years old.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let m represent how old Mikhail is.

110 = (m + 10) + m

Combine equal variables.

110 = 2m + 10

Get the variable alone by cancelling out the 10.

110 - 10 = 2m

Simplify.

100 = 2m

Divide.

m = 50

A die is rolled 23 times and the number of twos that come up is tallied. If this experiment is repeated many times, find the sta
Anon25 [30]

The probability of rolling a 2 is 1/6. If X is a random variable representing the number of 2s that are obtained after rolling a die 23 times, then X follows a binomial distribution with success probability p = 1/6 across n = 23 trials.

The variance of a binomial distribution with parameters p and n is n p (1 - p), so the standard deviation in this case would be

√(23 • 1/6 • 5/6) ≈ 1.8

A restaurant has a 3/4 pan of lasagna.if the cost is 20 dollars per 1/3 of a pan ,how much for the 3/4?
kumpel [21]

Answer:

3/4 pan of lasagna costs $45.

Step-by-step explanation:

The cost of 1/ 3 pan of lasagna = $20

The amount of lasagna available in restaurant = 3/4 pan

Now cost of 1/3 pan lasagna = $20

So, the weight of 1 full pan =3 \times  {\textrm{The cost of }}(\frac{1}{3}) {\textrm{pan of lasagna}}

=   3 x$ 20 = $60

⇒ 1 complete pan costs $60

So, 3/4 pan costs \frac{3}{4}  \times 60 = 45

Hence, 3/4 pan of lasagna costs $45.
