The temperature coefficient of a certain conducting material is 5.74 × 10-3 (°C)-1. (a) At what temperature would the resistance

be 2 times the resistance at 20.0°C? (Use 20.0°C as the reference point in .) (b) Does this temperature hold for all copper conductors, regardless of shape or size?

Answer:

Temperature at which the resistance is twice the resistance at 20^{\circ}C is 194.216^{\circ}C

Solution:

As per the question:

Temperature coefficient, \alpha = 5.74\times 10^{- 3}^{\circ}C

Reference temperature, T_{o} = 20^{\circ}C

Resistance, R_{t} = 2R_{o}

Now, using the formula:

R_{t} = R_{o}(1 + \alpha \Delta T)

2R_{o} = R_{o}(1 + \alpha \times (T _ T_{o}))

2 = 1 + 5.74\times 10^{- 3}\times (T - 20^{\circ})

\frac{1}{5.74\times 10^{- 3}} = T - 20^{\circ}

T = 174.216 + 20 = 194.216^{\circ}

  • Yes, this temperature holds for all all the conductors of copper, irrespective of the size and shape of the conductor.

To test the quality of a tennis ball, you drop it onto the floor from a height of 4.00 m. It rebounds to a height of 2.00 m. If
arlik [135]

Answer:

Part a)

a = 1260.3 m/s^2

Part b)

Direction = upwards

Explanation:

When ball is dropped from height h = 4.0 m

then the speed of the ball just before it will strike the ground is given as

v_f^2 - v_i^2 = 2 a d

v_1^2 - 0^2 = 2(9.81)(4.0)

v_1 = 8.86 m/s

Now ball will rebound to height h = 2.00 m

so the velocity of ball just after it will rebound is given as

v_f^2 - v_i^2 = 2 a d

0 - v_2^2 = 2(-9.81)(2.00)

v_2 = 6.26 m/s

Part a)

Average acceleration is given as

a = \frac{v_f - v_i}{\Delta t}

a = \frac{6.26 - (-8.86)}{12.0 \times 10^{-3}}

a = 1260.35 m/s^2

Part B)

As we know that ball rebounds upwards after collision while before collision it is moving downwards

So the direction of the acceleration is vertically upwards

An engineer wishes to design a curved exit ramp for a toll road in such a way that a car will not have to rely on friction to ro
Dafna11 [192]

To solve this problem we will make a graph that allows us to understand the components acting on the body. In this way we will have the centripetal Force and the Force by gravity generating a total component. If we take both forces and get the trigonometric ratio of the tangent we would have the angle is,

T_x = nsinA = \frac{mv^2}{r}

T_y = ncosA = mg

Dividing both.

tan A = \frac{v^2}{rg}

tan A = \frac{11.7^2}{50*9.8}

A = tan^{-1} (0.279367)

A = 15.608\°

Therefore the angle that should the curve be banked is 15.608°

A block of mass 27.00 kg sits on a horizontal surface with, coefficient of kinetic
zhannawk [14.2K]

Answer:

The force is  F  = 172 \ N

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

    The  mass of the block is  m_b = 27.0 \ kg

     The  coefficient of  static friction is  \mu_s = 0.65

     The coefficient of kinetic friction is  \mu_k = 0.50

The  normal force acting on the block is

      N  =  m *  g

substituting values

     N  =   27 *  9.8

     N  =   294.6  \  N

Given that the force we are to find is the force required to get the block to start moving then the force acting against this force is the static frictional force which is mathematically evaluated as

        F_f  =  \mu_s  *  N

substituting values

        F_f  =   0.65 *  264.6

        F_f  =   172 \ N

Now for this  block to move the force require is  equal to F_f i.e

       F= F_f

=>    F  = 172 \ N
