People have taken stands both good and bad
The prosecution entered indictments against 24 major war criminals and seven organizations – the leadership of the Nazi party, the Reich Cabinet, the Schutzstaffel (SS), Sicherheitsdienst (SD), the Gestapo, the Sturmabteilung (SA) and the "General Staff and High Command", comprising several categories of senior military officers.[avalon 1] These organizations were to be declared "criminal" if found guilty.
The civil liberties that are guaranteed by the American Bill of Rights and protected from government interference and abuse recognize people's unalienable or natural rights - "the great rights of mankind," as James Madison stated. These rights are freedom of religion; freedom of speech, press, petition and assembly; privacy; due process of law; and equality before the law.

I'm fairly sure GB and France had an alliance with Poland, so when they invaded Poland they had to step in and declare war on Germany.
