The war which occurred in the mid-1800s that weakened the economy of the Ottoman Empire was the Russo-Turkish War, <span>led by the Turks on one side, and Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro on the other.</span>
It was a conflict between Eastern Orthodox Coalition composed by the Russian Empire, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro against the Ottoman Empire. It was fought through the Caucasus and the Balkans.
It was a response of the Russian Empire to regain the territories lost in the Crimean War along with a new sense of nationalism in the Balkanic area. The coalition won the war and as a result of it the Ottoman Empire lost many territories, some in the hands of the Russian and other territories proclaimed their independence from them.
