Tanya has a garden with a trench around it. The garden is a rectangle with width 2 1/2 m and length 2 m. The trench and garden t
vichka [17]

Answer:

The area of a trench is 5.5 m² .

Step-by-step explanation:

Formula

Area of a rectangle = Length × Breadth

As given

Tanya has a garden with a trench around it.

The\ garden\ is\ a\ rectangle\ with\ width\ 2\frac{1}{2}\ m\ and\ length\ 2\ m.

i.e

The\ garden\ is\ a\ rectangle\ with\ width\ \frac{5}{2}\ m\ and\ length\ 2\ m.

Put in the above formula

Area\ of\ garden = \frac{5\times 2}{2}

                             = 5 m²

As given

The\ trench\ and\ garden\ together\ make\ a\ rectangle\ with\ width\ 3 \frac{1}{2}\ m\ and\ length\ 3 m.

i.e

The\ trench\ and\ garden\ together\ make\ a\ rectangle\ with\ width\ \frac{7}{2}\ m\ and\ length\ 3 m.

Area\ of\ garden\ with\ trench = \frac{7\times 3}{2}

Area\ of\ garden\ with\ trench = \frac{21}{2}

                                                  = 10.5 m²

Area of the trench = Area of garden with trench - Area of garden

Put the value in the above

Area of the trench = 10.5 m² - 5 m²

                               = 5.5 m ²

Therefore the area of a trench is 5.5 m² .

Describe at least two similarities between constructing a perpendicular line through a point on a line and constructing a perpen
Sophie [7]

Two similarities between constructing a perpendicular line through a point on a line and constructing a perpendicular through a point off a line are;

  • 1. Arcs are drawn to cross the given line twice on either side relative to the point
  • 2. The perpendicular line is drawn using a straight edge by connecting the small arcs formed using the arcs from step 1, to the point on the line or off the line

Description:

1. One of the first steps is to place the compass on the point and from

point, draw arcs to intersect or cross the given line at two points.

2. The compass is placed at each of the intersection point in step 1 and

(opened a little wider when constructing from a point on the line) arcs are

drawn on one (the other side of the point off the line) side of the line with

the same opening (radius) of the compass to intersect each other.

3. From the point of intersection of the arcs in step 2, a line is drawn with a

straight edge passing through the given point.

The scale factor for two similar rectangles is 4. If the area of the smaller rectangle 7m^2, what is the area of the larger rect
nydimaria [60]

Answer:

A. 112 m^2

Step-by-step explanation:

If the scale factor is 4, the area of the larger figure is 4^2 times that of the smaller one.

... (7 m^2)·4^2 = 112 m^2

_____

The scale factor for area is the square of the scale factor for linear dimensions. When we talk about a scale factor without qualification, we mean the scale factor for linear dimensions.
