Answer:

1) carbon dioxide enters a plant and is used to make sugar; which is used to build plant tissue.

2) a primary consumer eats the plant. the plant's carbon enters the primary consumer.

3) carbon enters a high-level consumer when it eats the primary consumer. Some carbon exits as feces

4) fungi use the carbon that is found in the wolf's feces.

5) cellular respiration in fungi releases carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

Explanation:

The above ilustration described a food chain involving the flow of carbon in the carbon cycle.

1) A food chain always begins with a PRODUCER e.g plants which undergoes photosynthesis to make its food (glucose sugar). Carbon in form of carbondioxide (CO2), which enters through the stomata of the plant is used in the photosynthetic process. Hence, photosynthesis removes carbon from the atmosphere.

2) An organism in the next TROPHIC LEVEL of the food chain called PRIMARY CONSUMER feeds on the plants. This causes the stored carbon in the plant to be transferred to the animal (primary consumer).

3) Another consumer higher than the primary consumer i.e. secondary and tertiary consumers eat the primary consumer, causing the carbon to be transferred to it. Some of this carbon is later released as feaces (undigested).

4) A set of organisms called DECOMPOSERS in ecology, which is the fungi in this case

begins to use the carbon source in the feaces as nutrients in order to grow.

5) Finally, the fungi undergoes cellular respiration which releases the carbon in form of carbondioxide (CO2) back into the atmosphere.

Mutations in ubiquitin lead to malfunction of what organelle in ALS that leads to buildup of mis-folded proteins?
sergiy2304 [10]

Answer:

Mitochondria.

Explanation:

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder in which the neuron died due to mutation in superoxide dismutase 1 gene. This disease is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Mitochondria structure is disorganized in ALS. The ubiquitin protein mutation leads to the malfunctioning of mitochondria and misfolded proteins are made in the mitochondria.

Thus, the correct answer is option (a).

When growing, as a cell gets bigger, what happens to its surface area to volume ratio?
marysya [2.9K]

Answer:

Surface area to volume ratio decreases.

Explanation:

When the cell enlarges beyond its capacity, it fails to supply enough material that can cross the membrane sooner so as to occupy the cellular volume. Hence the diffusion rate also decreases so as the ratio. The cell carry out its various functions to sustain through diffusion when diffusion rate is low it will ultimately affect the ratio. Bigger size affects the diffusion of the material to the out of the cell. as we know the diffusion occurs across the surface of the cell.

Mendel’s law of independent assortment states that alleles of genes on nonhomologous chromosomes assort independently during gam
Lera25 [3.4K]

The mix of alleles from various genes that end up in the daughter cells is determined by the anaphase 1 of meiosis 1.

Chromosome segregation during meiosis is mirrored in the segregation of alleles. During anaphase, 1 of meiosis 1 homologous chromosomal separation leads to allele segregation.

Chromosomes display autonomous assortment when they are randomly split into daughter cells during meiosis.

What takes place in anaphase 1?

During meiosis I, sister chromatids remain together as homologous chromosomes separate. To appreciate the development of germ cells, it is crucial to comprehend how this odd chromosomal segregation behavior came to be. Here, we show that the pattern of chromosomal segregation during meiosis I is determined by the microtubule-kinetochore interactions that are inhibited during prophase I and the premeiotic S phase.
