These are two questions and two answers.

Question 1. The ordered pair given in the first row in the table can be written using function notation as?

Answer: f(-2) = 1

Justification:

In functions, the notation f(x) denotes the image (ouput) obtained when you apply the rule (function) to the value x, i.e. x is the input.

So, for example, the image of x = 5 is f(5), the image of x = 2,000 is f(2,000), the imaga of x = - 100.5 is f(-100.5).

In the table, the first row shows that the image of x = -2 is 1, so f(-2)  = 1, and that is the answer to the question.

Question 2. f(x) = –2 when x is?

Answer: x = 4.

Justification.

You are requested to find which value of x makes the function f(x) equals  -2.

Therefore, you have to see that in the third row of the table it is shown that f(x) is - 2 when x = 4., and that is the answer.

All the following expressions mean the same and are used when you deal with functions:

  • the ordered pair (4, -2),
  • the image of 4 is - 2
  • the preimage of -2 is 4
  • f(4) = -2
  • f(x) = -2, when x = 4.

A fisherman can row upstream at 2 mph and downstream at 8 mph. He started rowing upstream until he got tired and then rowed down
Jobisdone [24]

let's recall that d = rt, distance = rate * time.

he went upstream to a distance "d", got tired and came back to his starting point, so he rowed back a distance "d" exactly.

we know the rates, we also know the trip took 2 hours, let's say on the way over he took "t" hours to get there, on the way back he lasted then "2 - t" hours.

\begin{array}{lcccl} &\stackrel{miles}{distance}&\stackrel{mph}{rate}&\stackrel{hours}{time}\\ \cline{2-4}&\\ Upstream&d&2&t\\ Downstream&d&8&2-t \end{array}\qquad \qquad \begin{cases} d=2t\\\\ d=8(2-t) \end{cases}

\stackrel{\textit{substituting on the 2nd equation}}{2t=8(2-t)\implies 2t=16-8t}\implies 10t=16\implies t=\cfrac{16}{10}\implies t=\cfrac{8}{5} \\\\[-0.35em] ~\dotfill\\\\ \stackrel{\textit{we know that}}{d=2t}\implies d=2\left( \cfrac{8}{5} \right)\implies \stackrel{\textit{3 miles and 1056 feet}}{d=\cfrac{16}{5}\implies d=3\frac{1}{5}}

A rectangular prism has a height of 4 inches and a width of 12 inches. If the prism can hold 432 cubic inches of water, what is
chubhunter [2.5K]
Given,

Height of the rectangular prism (h) = 4 inches
Width of the rectangular prism (w) = 12 inches
Since the prism can hold 432 cubic inches of water,
Volume of the rectangular prism (V) = 432 inches³

Formula for Volume of a rectangular prism (V) is,

V = whl

I am assuming you are looking for the third side, the length (l) of the prism.

From the above formula for volume,

Length of the prism (l) = V ÷ wh = 432 ÷ (4x12) = 432 ÷ 48 = 9 inches

Suppose a basketball team had a season of games with the following characteristics:
Masteriza [31]

Answer:

Hello Sir/ Mam

YOUR REQUIRED ANSWER IS 18.6%

Variables defined in the question:

H - Home - Games

W - Winning Games

Now, given:

P(H0.62 PW)0.22

P(W\mid H)=0.30

Required : Of all the games, percentage of games that were at home wins.

Hence, required :

P(W\cap H)

Now, we know that:

P(W\mid H)=\frac{P(W\cap H)}{P(H)}

0.3=\frac{P(W\cap H)}{0.62}

Hence,

P(W\cap H)=0.3*0.62=0.186=18.6\%

I hope this solves your doubt.

Feel free to comment if you still have any query.

Do give a thumbs up if you find this helpful.
