Phrase ‘Iron Curtain’ was used by Prime Minister Winston Churchill to refer to the division that was between Western powers and the areas which were controlled by the Soviet Union.

Further Explanation:-

Winston Churchill condemned the policies of the Soviet Union in Europe and to describe these policies he gave a speech that is considered as one of the most famous speeches made during the cold war. In that speech, he used the word ‘ Iron Curtain' to describe the policies of the Soviet Union. This speech was given in Westminster college, Missouri in the year 1945. President of the United States, Harry S. Truman also joined Churchill and at the start of his speech, Winston Churchill praised the United States and termed the US as Pinnacle of World power. He warned about the policies that were related to the expansion of the Soviet Union and stated that dealing with the Soviets was nothing which he admired as strength.

What are the symbols used in the cartoon "close the gate" by orr in the chicago tribune
Natalija [7]
The "Close the Gate" political cartoon was created during 1919. This was the era of the Red Scare, where Americans feared the Soviet Union and communism infiltrating American society. With this in mind, you can better understand the cartoon.

If you look, on the suitcase there is says "undesirables." This shows how the author sees the immigrants coming in as a detriment to society.

On the gate, it says "Immigration restrictions." If this gate is closed, it will effectively limit who is coming into the United States. These restrictions will help to ensure that foreigners won't spread their ideas/bad influences into American society.

Lastly, his head is shown as a bomb with a fuse light. This is symbolic, as it is saying that it is only a matter of time before this person does something bad.
