the sum of three numbers is 60. the second number is two more than the first. the third number is two more than the second. find
Mamont248 [21]

Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

The three numbers are 18, 20, and 22

Discussion:

Let the first number be called "x". The the Question states that

x + (x+2) + ( x+2 +2) = 60   => combine like terms

3x + ( 2 + 2 +2) = 60           => simplify

3x + 6 = 60                          => subtract 6 form both sides

3x       = 60 - 6 = 54            => divide both sides by 3

x = 54/3 = 18

So the numbers are 18, 20, and 22

Thank you,

MrB

Solve for y.

6(y+4)=-3(2y-2) +8y

Simplify your answer as much as possible.
y =
nadezda [96]

Answer:

6(y + 4) = -3(2y - 2) + 8y

6y + 24 = -6y + 6 + 8y

6y + 24 = 2y + 6

Subtract -2y on both sides

4y + 24 = 6

Subtract -24 on both sides

4y = -18

y = - 4.5

Two planes, which are 2920 miles apart, fly toward each other. Their speeds differ by 80mph. If they pass each other in 4 hours,
Leona [35]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  405 mph; 325 mph

Step-by-step explanation:

The total of their speeds is ...

  2920 mi/(4 h) = 730 mi/h

If s represents the speed of the slower plane, then we have ...

  s + (s+80) = 730

  2s = 650 . . . . . . .  subtract 80

  s = 325 . . . . . . . divide by 2

  s+80 = 405 . . .  find the faster speed

The speeds of the planes are 405 mi/h and 325 mi/h.
