Answer: Textual evidence directly affects inflection. Textual evidence is important to inferencing, but not inflection. Inflection occurs before textual evidence. Textual evidence and inflection are important both when reading by yourself and listening.

inysia [295]
Answer: Sitting Bull (c. 1831-1890) was a Teton Dakota Native American chief who united the Sioux tribes of the American Great Plains against the white settlers taking their tribal land. The 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty granted the sacred Black Hills of South Dakota to the Sioux, but when gold was discovered there in 1874, the U.S. government ignored the treaty and began to remove native tribes from their land by force.

What type of language are you using when you say you are pleased when you are really extremely happy?
Dima020 [189]
I would say understatement.
Example: You fall down the stairs and break your leg. While the ambulance is on the way, your friends asks how much it hurts and instead of wanting to seem like a crybaby you downplay how much pain you're actually in. Which is an understatement.

In at least one hundred words, explain what Jim does for Tom in chapters 40-43 that points to Jim's humanity.
satela [25.4K]

Jim refuses to abandon Tom, who has been shot, even though it jeopardizes his freedom.

Why does this show Jim's humanity?

 • Because he sacrifices himself for Tom.
 • Because he shows companionship to Tom.

Jim and Tom are on the run from a group of men. In the escape, Tom is shot and Jim refuses to run away without him, as he knows he is suffering and feeling a lot of pain and fear. This causes Jim to lose his chance of not being captured.
