Perspiration, in turn, is a normal and healthy bodily function, which begins to occur a few months after birth. Humans perspire to cool their body temperature. In science, this process is called thermoregulation. When it occurs, the brain sends a signal to more than 3 million glands in the body, which immediately release sweat. Sweat is a liquid composed of water, salts and proteins. As we sweat, this liquid evaporates from the skin to reduce body temperature. The human body makes use of evaporative cooling by perspiration to release energy, even when surrounded by a temperature above body temperature.
