The base of a solid is the circle x2 + y2 = 9. Cross sections of the solid perpendicular to the x-axis are equilateral triangles. What is the volume, in cubic units, of the solid?
Each triangle has a base 2y. So, since the area of an equilateral triangle of side s is √3/4 s^2, our triangles have area.

√3/4 (9-x^2)

Now, all we have to do is sum up all the triangular plates of thickness dx, from -3<=x<=3. Or, because of symmetry, twice the volume for 0<=x<=3.

v = 2∫[0,3] √3/4 (9-x^2) dx

I FOND YOUR COMPLETE QUESTION IN ANOTHER SOURCE.
PLEASE SEE ATTACHED IMAGE.

The width of the rectangle in this case will be given by:
w = x + 5 + x
Rewriting:
w = 2x + 5
The length of the rectangle will be given by:
L = x + 10 + x
Rewriting:
L = 2x + 10
Answer:
w = 2x + 5
L = 2x + 10

Find the surface area of the cylinder
Give your answer in terms of pi
12345 [234]
We can find the area of the circles on top and bottom using pi*r^2

pi*1^2 = pi.. we have two circles so the total area is 2pi

For the remainder of the cylinder, let's flatten the tube into a rectangle. Imagine cutting a toilet paper roll and laying it flat. The height is given as 9, and the width is the circumference of the circle. C=2pi*r

So the area of the rectangle is 9*2pi*1 = 18pi

Add the 18pi and 2 pi for a total surface area of 20pi.
