Let x be the missing number

7/8 = x/48

Cross- multiply

7/8= x/48

(7)*(48) = x*8

336 = 8x

Flip the equation

8x = 336

Divide both sides by 8

8x/8 = 336/8

x= 42

Check my answer

First , replace x by 42

7/8 = 42/48

0.875 = 0.875

I hope that's really help !

cestrela7 [59]
To solve, we add the 4 numbers (including the one unknown) and divide that total by 4, and this equals the desired overall average of 154.

x= score needed on 4th game

(149 + 162 + 152 + x)/4= 154
add in parentheses

(463 + x)/4= 154
multiply both sides by 4; 4 "cancels out" on the left side

463 + x= 616
subtract 463 from both sides

x= 153

ANSWER: 153 is the score needed on the 4th game to reach the desired overall average of 154.

Hope this helps! :)

Is ( 2 , -1 ) a solution for the following system of equations?
2x-y=3
-x+y=4
Yes or No
Debora [2.8K]

Answer:

No

Step-by-step explanation:

A point is a solution to a system of equations if its x and y values can be substituted into both equations and both of the end results are true statements. So, let's substitute the x and y values of (2,-1) into the given equations to see if it's a solution.

1) First, let's try this with 2x-y = 3. Substitute 2 for x and -1 for y in the equation, then simplify:

2x-y = 3\\\\2(2)-(-1) = 3\\4 + 1 =3\\5 =3\\5\neq 3

When simplifying, we got the result of 5 = 3. But 5 doesn't equal 3. Thus, this is a false statement, and the point is not a solution.
