The right answer is IRONY (C). As a literary device, irony is a contrast or absurdity between expectations for a situation and what is reality. It can also be a difference between what can be expected to happen and what occurs. In this excerpt we can notice the use of irony because it says Shelby is a weather forecaster and it the very day she left, weather became rough, meanig it is ironic how the the first event conditionated the following.

The literary device the author used in the passage is c) irony.
It is quite ironic that the weather forecaster, who is supposed to know about the weather, chose just one day in the year to go camping, and it started raining.

What does a writer need to develop a main idea?
Inessa05 [86]

The correct answer is D. Supporting evidence

Explanation:

In writing, the main idea is the main point the author writes about which is usually connected to an argument, position, point of view, etc. This main or central idea is the one that guides all the process of writing and that is introduced in the first paragraph, then developed in the body paragraph and restated or summarized in the last paragraphs. Additionally, main ideas are commonly developed through supporting evidence that includes sub-ideas, reasons, quotes, example, statistics, etc organized in multiple paragraphs. Thus, a writer needs to develop the main idea by using supporting evidence.

Choose the word pair that would best complete this analogy.
Mnenie [13.5K]

The correct answer is B. Photograph: picture

Explanation:

In analogies, it is required to apply the type of relationship found in a pair of two elements or concepts into a new pair of elements establishing in a relationship of analogy or comparison. This means, in this case in which the original pair of concepts is "phase: stage" that relate to each other as synonyms because they both refer to a section in a process, the pair of words that complete this analogy also need to be synonyms or have similar meanings.

Considering this, the pair of words that relate to each other as synonyms and therefore can complete this analogy are "photograph: picture" because they both refer to an image of an object, person or animal that can be produced by using a camera, which means as "phase" and "stage" these concepts are synonyms and therefore a similar relationship or analogy is established between both word pairs.
