A box of spaghetti at the grocery store is purchased for $1.60 wholesale and is marked up by 60 percent. Then, the store marks d

own the item by 20 percent. A customer wants to buy three boxes of spaghetti. How much will the customer pay, including paying 8 percent sales tax? Round your answer to the nearest cent.
Look at the table below.

Steps
Moses’s work
Step 1
1 dollar and 60 cents (1.6) = 2 dollars and 56 cents
Step 2
2 dollars and 56 cents (0.80) = 2 dollars and 5 cents
Step 3
2 dollars and 5 cents (3) = 8 dollars and 20 cents
Step 4
8 dollars and 20 cents (1.08) = 8 dollars and 86 cents

Find the exact value of cos(a+b) if cos a=-1/3 and cos b=-1/4 if the terminal side if a lies in quadrant 3 and the terminal side
maria [59]

Answer:

cos(a + b) = \frac{1}{12}(1-2\sqrt{30})

Step-by-step explanation:

cos(a + b) = cos(a).cos(b) - sin(a).sin(b) [Identity]

cos(a) = -\frac{1}{3}

cos(b) = -\frac{1}{4}

Since, terminal side of angle 'a' lies in quadrant 3, sine of angle 'a' will be negative.

sin(a) = -\sqrt{1-(-\frac{1}{3})^2} [Since, sin(a) = \sqrt{(1-\text{cos}^2a)}]

         = -\sqrt{\frac{8}{9}}

         = -\frac{2\sqrt{2}}{3}

Similarly, terminal side of angle 'b' lies in quadrant 2, sine of angle 'b' will be  negative.

sin(b) = -\sqrt{1-(-\frac{1}{4})^2}

         = -\sqrt{\frac{15}{16}}

         = -\frac{\sqrt{15}}{4}

By substituting these values in the identity,

cos(a + b) = (-\frac{1}{3})(-\frac{1}{4})-(-\frac{2\sqrt{2}}{3})(-\frac{\sqrt{15}}{4})

                = \frac{1}{12}-\frac{\sqrt{120}}{12}

                = \frac{1}{12}(1-\sqrt{120})

                = \frac{1}{12}(1-2\sqrt{30})

Therefore, cos(a + b) = \frac{1}{12}(1-2\sqrt{30})

What is the best estimate for the product of 289 and 7
Katarina [22]
I would estimate it as (300 x 7) = 2100

Then I would subtract (11 x 7) + 77 from that to get the exact answer of 2023

~~~~~~~~~~
I didn't use a calculator or paper. The 'trick' is to notice that 289 = (300 - 11)
