The perimeter is 14. The area is twelve. You could do 6*1, because 6*1 is six, but 6+6+1+1=14.

The length of a rectangular pool is to be four times its width and a sidewalk 6ft wide will surround the pool. If a total area o
natita [175]

Answer:

52 feet by 13 feet.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

The length of a rectangular pool is to be four times its width.

Sidewalk is 6 feet wide will surround the pool.

If a total area of 1600 square feet has been set aside for the area of the pool and the sidewalk.

Question asked:

What are the dimensions of the pool?

Solution:

Let width of a rectangular pool = x

Then the length of a rectangular pool will be = 4x

Area\ of \ rectnagle= length\times breadth

                              =x\times4x\\ \\ =4x^{2}

Combined length of pool and the sidewalk = length of pool + width of sidewalk + width of sidewalk

Combined length of pool and the sidewalk = 4x+6+6=4x+12

Similarly, Combined width of pool and the sidewalk = x+6+6=x+12

Combined area of pool and the sidewalk = 1600

Combined\ lengthh\times Combined\ r=breadth=1600\\ \\ (4x+12)(x+12)=1600\\ \\ 4x(x+12)+12(x+12)=1600\\ \\ 4x^{2} +48x+12x+144=1600\\ \\ 4x^{2} +60x+144=1600

Subtracting both sides by 144

4x^{2} +60x=1456\\ \\ 4x^{2} +60x-1456=0\\ \\ Taking\ 4\ as\ common\\ \\ x^{2} +15x-364=0\\ \\ x^{2} +28x-13x-364=0\\ \\ x(x+28)-13(x+28)=0\\ \\ x+28=0,x-13=0\\ \\ x=-28,x=13

Since dimensions can never be in negative, hence x=13

Width of a rectangular pool = x = 13 feet

The length of a rectangular pool will be = 4x = 4\times13=52\ feet

Therefore, the dimensions of the pool are 52 feet by 13 feet.

Describe the power function f(x)=x^5. What does it look like? Where does it cross the x- and y-axis? How many turns does it make
Paladinen [302]

Answer: f(x) = x⁵ – 8x⁴ + 16x³

Does not cross the x-axis at x = 4.

Crosses the x-axis at x = 0

This is about the end behavior of a graph of a function at the end of the x-axis.

We are given the function;

f(x) = x⁵ - 8x⁴ + 16x³

A) As x approaches negative infinity -∞, x⁵ will also approach negative infinity -∞. This is because when we raise a negative number to the power of an odd number, the result remains negative.

B) As x approaches positive infinity +∞, x⁵ will also approach positive infinity -∞. This is because when we raise a positive number to the power of an odd number, the result remains positive.

Let's now find the roots of this function;

f(x) = x⁵ - 8x⁴ + 16x³

Let's factorize it first to get;

f(x) = x³(x² – 8x + 16)(x² – 8x + 16) is a perfect square trinomial and can be expressed as (x – 4)(x - 4).

Thus;f(x) = x³ (x – 4)(x - 4)

C) Since we have found the factorized form to be;

f(x) = x³ (x – 4)(x - 4)

The roots are at f(x) = 0;

The roots are; x³ = 0; (x – 4) = 0 ; (x - 4) = 0

This means the roots of f(x) are; x=0 and x=4.  x = 4

This means the graph has a repeated root and so it will touch the x-axis but not at the repeated root of x=4.

D) Since it 0 is a root and it does not cross at x = 4, the graph will cross at x = 0.
