The following is the origin of the heat that moves earth's tectonic plates: A. The formation of earth

Further explanation

Plate tectonics is theory that Earth's outer shell is divided into several plates that glide over the mantle, the rocky inner layer above the core. The process of plate tectonics is caused by the convection in Earth's mantle, the pull of heavy old pieces of crust into the mantle, or both.

Mantle convection is the main way heat from Earth's interior is transported to its surface. This heat escapes principally through mid-ocean ridges. As tectonic plates move, continents and ocean basins open and close. Heat from the base of the mantle contributes significantly to the the flow of heat strength in the mantle and to the resultant plate tectonics. Therefore the formation of earth is the origin of the heat that moves earth's tectonic plates

Active volcanoes is not the answer. Active volcano is a volcano that has at least one eruption during the past 10,000 years. Most volcanoes form at the boundaries of Earth's tectonic plates.
