The distributive property of multiplication over addition can be used when you multiply a number by a sum. The distributive property lets you multiply a sum by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products:

a\cdot (b+c)=a\cdot b+a\cdot c.

The distributive property of multiplication over subtraction can be used when you multiply a number by a difference. The property states that the product of a number and the difference of two other numbers is equal to the difference of the products:

a\cdot (b-c)=a\cdot b-a\cdot c.

Therefore, you can see what sign is in the brackets, if sign is "+", then you have to add, if sign is "-", then you have to subtract.

The addition or subtraction in the distribution property depends on the sign between the two real numbers in the expression.

Further explanation:

The distributive property states that if a number a is multiplied with the sum of the two numbers b and c then the result is same as if the numbers are multiplied separately.

\fbox{\begin\\\ \math a(b+c)=(a\cdot b)+(a\cdot c)\\\end{minispace}}          ....(1)

The distributive property states that if a number a is multiplied with the difference of the two numbers b and c then the result is same as if the numbers are multiplied separately.

\fbox{\begin\\\ \math a(b-c)=(a\cdot b)-(a\cdot c)\\\end{minispace}}             ....(2)

For example: Consider 5 as a, 6 as b and 2 as c.

Substitute 5 for a, 6 for b and 2 as c in the equation (1) as follows:

\begin{aligned}5(6+2)&=(5\cdot 6)+(5\cdot 2)\\5\cdot 8&=30+10\\40&=40\end{aligned}

Now, substitute 5 for a, 6 for b and 2 as c in the equation (2) as follows,

\begin{aligned}5(6-2)&=(5\cdot 6)-(5\cdot 2)\\5\cdot 4&=30-10\\20&=20\end{aligned}

Therefore, the addition or subtraction in the distributive property is based on the sign between the two real numbers. If the sign between the real number is positive then the numbers are added and if the sign between the real number is negative then the numbers are subtracted.

M is the midpoint of segment GR. G has coordinates (11,-5) and M is (4,-4) Find the coordinates of R
7nadin3 [17]

Answer:

  • (3, -3)

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Given:</u>

  • G = (11,-5)
  • M = (4,-4)
  • R = ?

<u>Solution</u>

  • R(x, y)

<u>As per midpoint formula;</u>

  • 4 = (11 + x)/2  ⇒ x + 11 = 8 ⇒ x = 3
  • -4 = (-5 + y)/2 ⇒ y - 5 = -8 ⇒ y = -3
  • R = (3, -3)

Is this an example of inductive reasoning, deductive reasoning, or neither?
densk [106]

Since the specific conclusion is based on a general premise, this is a case of deductive reasoning.

<h3>What is deductive reasoning?</h3>

The term deductive reasoning has to do with the process of arriving at a specific conclusion based on a more general premise.

In this case, the conclusion arrived at was based on the fact that Mia saw a general sign that read that 3 grapefruit cost $2.50. Hence, this is a case of deductive reasoning.

Triangle JKL is dilated from the origin at a scale factor of 10 to create triangle J′K′L′.Select the option that completes the s
Aneli [31]

Given: Triangle JKL is dilated from the origin at a scale factor of 10 to create triangle J′K′L′.

Required: Correct option that complete the statement.

Explanation:

Now, triangle is dilated from the origin at a scale factor of 10.

So, the sides will become larger, but angles will remain the same.

Hence, the triangles will be similar as sides will be in proption (SSS rule).

So, The triangles are similar because their corresponding sides are proptional and their corresponding angles are congurent.

Final Answer: Second group is correct answer.
