Hurricane Katrina was one of the most destructive and the one that caused more fatalities of the hurricane season in the Atlantic of 2005. Katrina devastated the coasts of the gulf from Florida to Texas due to its intensification. The highest number of deaths occurred in New Orleans, which was flooded because its levee system failed, many of them collapsing several hours after the hurricane had continued inland. 80% of the city as well as large areas of adjoining parishes were flooded, thus staying for weeks.
