Its controversy was reported when Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring book was released, detailing how the wildlife has been damaged due to environmental impact stemming from the use of DDT. It was found that DDT was responsible for the decline of bird of preys (falcon, eagles) in the United States due to its effects on their eggs.  

We can say from here that (B) was the right answer since due to widespread perception of its toxicity, DDT was banned from use in many countries, despite disagreements from the scientific community who believes that the hysteria over DDT was mostly unfounded.
