Answer;

Barnacles benefit from living on whales, and they do not hurt the whales

Explanation;

Relationship of two organisms from different species where one benefits whereas the other is unaffected.

A good example is Barnacles and whale;

Barnacles attach to the whale and grow in place. The barnacles uses the whale as a place to live and a place to eat. The whale will bring the barnacles to protozoa, which both organisms eat. The barnacles benefit immensely, but the whale does not. However, even though the whale doesn't benefit, it isn't harmed by the barnacles either.

Describe an experiment you could do to see if an earthworm prefers acidic or alkaline soil
Anon25 [30]

Answer:

Because earthworms do not like soil that is too acid, alkaline, dry, wet, hot or cold, their presence is a good indicator of soil conditions suitable for plant growth. Earthworms do not like acid soils with pH (CaCl2) less than 4.5. The addition of lime raises pH and also adds calcium.

What do your cells have to overcome the problem of needing high activation energy?
Nana76 [90]

Answer: They use enzymes.

Explanation:

Cells employ enzymes to drive and speed up their chemical reactions without being used up themselves. They are the only macromolecular biological catalysts that can start a reaction using the smallest available heat energy, thus overcoming the issue of needing high activation energy. Enzymes work by converting specific substrates to required product by binding them to their active site.

When a hormone is present in excessive levels, the number of target-cell receptors my decrease. This is called ____. A. Receptor
Ainat [17]

Answer:E. Down-regulation

Explanation:Cells typically up or down  regulate  depending on  the concentration of a hormone levels. When  there is a excessive  concentration of a hormone in the blood stream, the cell decreases the number of receptors reducing  the interaction  with that hormone, Also, when there is excessive  hormone reduction, the  target cells activate to increase their number of receptors.

Down  regulation occurs by the the deactivating or degrading of target cells to reduce the number of  receptors due to their sensitivity to a particular excess hormone.
