In the guppie simulation, what happens to the brightest guppies when there are large numbers of predators?

Biology
1 answer:
jonny [76]3 years ago
5 0
In the simulation, the brightness of the guppies is directly related to how fast they are consumed by predators. This phenomenon is explained simply and reflects natural selection. The brighter guppies are at a selective disadvantage due to the ease with which predators are able to spot them. The darker colored guppies are able to avoid predator better so they live fore a longer time.

What characteristic of viruses distinguishes them from cells?
Helga [31]

Answer: Viruses, although not living things, do show some characteristics that they are living. Because they can't reproduce by themselves (without a host), viruses are not considered living. They are made of proteins and glycoproteins like cells are. They contain genetic information needed to produce more viruses in the form of DNA or RNA.

They are acellular, that is, they contain no cytoplasm or cellular organelles. They carry out no metabolism on their own and must replicate using the host cell's metabolic machinery.

The presence of an appropriate enzyme affects only the __________.
iVinArrow [24]

Answer;

-The rate of the reaction;

The presence of an enzyme affects only the rate of the reaction.

Explanation;

-Enzymes are biological catalysts. Catalysts lower the activation energy for reactions. The lower the activation energy for a reaction, the faster the rate. Thus enzymes speed up reactions by lowering activation energy.

-Additionally, the rate of a chemical reaction increases as the substrate concentration increases. Enzymes can greatly speed up the rate of a reaction. However, enzymes become saturated when the substrate concentration is high.
