Answer:

Many African Americans who attempted to vote were also threatened physically or feared losing their jobs.

Explanation:

When Reconstruction ended in 1877, states across the South implemented new laws to restrict the voting rights of African Americans. These included onerous requirements of owning property, paying poll taxes, and passing literacy or civics exams. Many African Americans who attempted to vote were also threatened physically or feared losing their jobs. One of the major goals of the Civil Rights Movement was to register voters across the South in order for African Americans to gain political power. Most of the interviewees in the Civil Rights History Project were involved in voter registration drives, driving voters to the polls, teaching literacy classes for the purposes of voter registration, or encouraging local African Americans to run as candidates.

Answer:

Because blacks weren't allowed to vote. The right to vote was pretty much a spark for the rest of the demands that Blacks wanted from their government. They only wanted to be seen as equal with the Whites.

Answer:It gives insight into what the soldiers believed

Explanation: This document gives the perspective of the Civil War soldier showing their reason for fighting.

Primary sources that highlight a citizen's perspective provide the common American's experience. The reasons for the Civil War are often portrayed from the perspective of the government and/or the wealthy. Soldiers typically have a different reason for fighting. The Civil War was about states' rights or keeping the Union together, but for this soldier it was about the legacy of the country and an attempt to protect that legacy.

What was the big disagreement over Reconstruction?
nlexa [21]

Answer:

Congress Responds

Most moderate Republicans in Congress supported the president's proposal for Reconstruction because they wanted to bring a swift end to the war, but other Republicans feared that the planter aristocracy would be restored and the blacks would be forced back into slavery.

• Do you think the Sedition Act was necessary? Why or why not?
Vitek1552 [10]

Answer:

No, I do not think it was necessary.

Explanation:

The Sedition act was uncharacteristic of the initial thoughts of the forefathers of the United States because it went against the freedom of speech and freedom of press. Although it seemed to be a quick fix to stop dissention in the U.S. with anti war sentiment, it also invalidated the very constitution for which the U.S stood on. There could have been better ways to handle it such as educating the public better on what exactly was happening, and why we might as a country needed to become involved in the war.
