The correct answer is option "2": For millions of workers the industrial age brought poverty and harsh living conditions since they faced low wages and had to pay high rents. Although the standards of living increased, the workers suffered from dangerous working conditions as well as overcrowded housing for which they paid high costs. Many people from rural areas moved to the big cities due to the process of industrialization. The great demand of workers resulted in low wages. At the same time, urbanization increased and with it the cost of rents.

I think the second answer is correct. considering what i learned before and how people needed to pay more to live but didn't make enough to do so.
