1) A balloon shrinks when it is taken outside in the winter.

In this the temperature is low outside in winters and as we take the balloon outside, the volume also as it shrinks. So, this situation follows Charles's Law.

2) When the size of an air chamber is increased, the air pressure decreases.

As the size is increasing which means that the volume is increasing and hence, the pressure is decreasing. This situation is following Boyle's Law.

3) A balloon expands when air is blown into it.

As the number of particles are increasing when we blow air into the balloon and as a result the size of the balloon is also increasing. Therefore, this situation is following Avogadro's Law.

4) A closed, flexible container expands when it is heated.

In this situation, the temperature is increasing and as a result thus container is also expanding. Thus, this situation is following Charles's Law.

5) Pressing on an inflated balloon decreases its size.

Here, the pressure is increasing the volume of the balloon is decreasing because the size is decreasing. This situation is following Boyle's Law.

Explanation:

1) Charles's Law: This law states that the volume is directly related to the temperature of the gas when pressure and number of moles are held constant.

V\propto T   (At constant Pressure and number of moles)

2) Boyle's Law: This law states that Pressure is inversely related to the volume of the gas when temperature and number of moles are held constant.

P\propto \frac{1}{V}   (At constant Temperature and number of moles)

3) Avogadro's Law: This law states that Volume is directly related to the Number of moles of gas when Pressure and temperature are held constant.

V\propto n   (At constant Pressure and Temperature)

For the given options:

When both –NH2 and –COOH replace hydrogen atoms on the same carbon atom, a(n) ____ is formed. a. amine c. carboxylic acid b. ami
Mice21 [21]

-NH_{2} represents amine functional group and COOH represents carboxylic acid functional group. When these both functional groups are substituted onto a single carbon atom, then amino acid is formed.

The organic compound consists of -NH_{2} functional group and COOH functional group with a side chain is said to be an amino acid.

A: amine group is -NH_{2}.

C: carboxylic acid  group is COOH

B: amino acid represents -NH_{2} functional group and COOH functional group which are substituted onto a single carbon atom.

D: carbohydrate:  the general formula of carbohydrate is (CH_{2} O)_{x}.

Hence, amino acid is the correct answer.

If the number of moles of a gas initially contained in a 2.10 l vessel is doubled, what is the final volume of the gas in liters
Anon25 [30]
Avagadro's law gives the relationship between volume of gas and number of moles of the gas. When the temperature and pressure are constant, volume is directly proportional to number of moles of gas.
\frac{V1}{n1} =  \frac{V2}{n2}
V -volume and n - number of moles of gas.
parameters for the first instance are on the left side and parameters for the second instance are on the right side of the equation
initial number of moles n1 - N
n2 - 2N as the number of moles are doubled
V1 - initial volume - 2.10 L
V2 - final volume - V
substituting the values in the equation
\frac{2.10L}{N}  \frac{V}{2N}
V = 4.20 L
final volume is 4.20 L

Why is methanol written as ch3oh instead of ch4o?
Ahat [919]

Answer: Here comes the role of another formula, which we refer to as the structural formula and that is CH3OH for methanol. The structural formula gives us an additional information that carbon is attached to three hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

What phase change is the following substance undergoing?
Dvinal [7]

Answer:

b melting

Explanation:

The phase change the substance is undergoing is from solid to liquid and this is called melting.

  • To understand this process, we need to know the the substance changing.
  • A substance that contains particles that are not easily compressed and packed is a solid.
  • Solids have fixed shapes and volumes.
  • Liquids can easily flow although they cannot also be easily compressed.

The phase change from solid to liquid is facilitated by a melting process.
