When built-up energy is released from the Sun, it causes a bright spot to suddenly appear on the Sun’s surface. These bright spo

ts are what scientists call a solar flare. When energy is released in this manner, high-energy particles are also heated and discharged into the Sun’s outermost atmosphere.
The first time a solar flare was observed was on September 1, 1859. Scientists Richard Carrington and Richard Hodgson had been both looking at sunspots on their own. They noticed some of the sunspots brightened. After this discovery, scientists observed that the solar flares occurred in roughly an 11-year period. When the Sun’s cycle reached its height, the number of detected solar flares increased.
Even though solar flares stay near the Sun, they impact the space around the Sun. A solar flare can release radiation that can come in such forms as radio waves and gamma rays. A solar flare poses a threat to astronauts out in space because it can expose them to high levels of radiation. It can also damage space equipment. On Earth, radiation can disrupt the radio communication from satellites. The extra currents of energy that reach Earth can overheat power lines. This, in turn, will affect power grids around the world.

Select the correct answer.
Which of the following notes would be most relevant if you were researching the effects of solar flares?

A.
Communication systems can be disrupted.
B.
Radio waves and gamma rays are types of radiation.
C.
Solar flares occur almost every 11 years.
D.
The solar flares occur often at the height of the cycle.

In “The Rockpile” by James Baldwin, how does the setting influence the way Gabriel and Elizabeth raise their children?
damaskus [11]
Mark Brainliest please

Answer

Their fear of danger causes them to impose strict rules on their children.

Explanation:
James Baldwin's short story "The Rockpile" tells the story of how a young family's approaches t their parenting techniques led to the fateful incident of one of their son's injury. The parents Gabriel and Elizabeth's approach of strictly dominating their children's lives had led to the ensuing incident.
The setting of the story is in a house from where the boys can see the 'rockpile' which they are prohibited from ever visiting. From the start of the story, we find the mother telling the boys to "stay away from (the rockpile)". This strict approach resulting from their fear of them coming "home bleeding like a hog every day the Lord sends" causes them to impose strict restrictions on their involvement and interactions with friends.

Which sentence is an example of an effective thesis statement for an argument about cancer funding?
yawa3891 [41]

The best example of a thesis statement is the following: "Funding for breast cancer should remain higher than the funding of other cancers because much of the funding is privately raised, the resulting research has proven beneficial for advancing the treatment of other cancers, and public support will demand the maintenance of current funding" (C).

A good thesis statement should be one sentence containing clearly:

 • the main idea of the essay or paper;
 • the conclusion you will be reaching as an answer to this question;
 • and, potentially, a summary of the thread of ideas you will be developing to come to this conclusion.

In statement C, the thesis is expressed directly and the author explains why this argument is important: current levels of research about breast cancer funding should at least be maintained, and prioritized over other forms of cancer, because this specific research helps us learn more about other cancers and how to treat them.

The author also adds an element which will appear in the development of ideas (the main body of the paper): the fact that the public opinion supports current breast cancer research funding levels.
