Cancer is a group of related diseases that occurs when abnormal cells divide in an uncontrolled manner in the body. Cancer are grouped into five based on the type of cell they start from. The five types of cancer are;  

  1. Carcinomas – This cancer starts in the skin or within the tissue that cover internal organs.
  2. Lymphomas – This type of cancer starts in the cells of the immune system.
  3. Leukaemias – This begins in blood forming tissue such as the bone marrow.
  4. Brain tumors- The central nervous system cancers.
  5. Sarcomas – This starts in the supportive or connective tissues such as muscle, fibrous tissue (such as tendons and ligaments), bone, cartilage or blood vessels.

Breast cancer- a cancer that forms in the cells of the breasts.
Prostate cancer- a cancer that forms in a mans prostate, a small walnut-sized gland that produces seminal fluids.
Basal cell cancer- a type of skin cancer that begins in the basal cells.
Melanoma- the most serious type of skin cancer.
Lymphoma- a cancer in the lymphatic system.
