Answer:

Apart from the mentioned functions of a cell membrane, one of the prime functions of a cell membrane is to take part in the communication between the cell and its environment. The cell membrane is one of the most essential components that take part in communication and ensures that the messages are received and decoded appropriately.

A cell membrane comprises various proteins that plays an essential role in ensuring communication between the cells. These proteins obtain chemical information from other cells known as signaling molecules. When these molecules combine with the cellular membrane’s proteins they stimulate a modification or change in protein conformation, which then transmits the information into the cell and instigates a particular cellular reaction.

What property do the following elements have in common? Sulfur, iodine, magnesium
Luba_88 [7]

Answer:

Same Phase at room temp

Explanation:

Here we have a metal and two nonmetals (sulfur and iodine).

They are all solid at room temperature. Metals form cations and are good conductors of electricity. They are not from the same family, therefore, they do not have the same number of valence electrons.

What part of the intestinal tract prevents backflow of food from the stomach into the esophagus? a. diaphragm b. lower esophagea
lara31 [8.8K]

Answer:

The correct option is b. lower esophageal sphincter

Explanation:

The esophagus is the initial part of the digestive tract and its function is the transport of the alimentary bolus from the pharynx to the stomach, through the thorax and avoid the reflux thereof. It begins and ends in two sphincter structures, the upper esophageal sphincter and the lower esophageal sphincter, which separate it from the pharynx and stomach. The lower esophageal sphincter has two functions: relax during swallowing and prevent reflux of the gastric contents into the esophagus in the postdeglutory period. After swallowing, there is a relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, pressure dropping to levels similar to those of the gastric fundus, which allows the bolus to enter the stomach. This relaxation lasts a few seconds and is followed by a strong contraction that prevents backflow of food.

A student named Janine says that the measure of side b is 64 ft. Please state whether this is correct or incorrect. If this is i
kolezko [41]

The measure of side b as 64 ft is incorrect. The accurate measure would be 8 ft.

According to the Pythagorean theorem, the square of the hypotenuse of a right-angle triangle is the sum of squares of the opposite and the adjacent sides. Mathematically:

hypotenuse^2 = opposite^2 + adjacent^2

In this case, the hypotenuse = 10 ft, the opposite = 6 ft and the adjacent = b

Hence,

b^2 = 10^2 - 6^2

       = 100 - 36

          = 64

b = √64

     = 8 ft

Thus, the side b is 8 ft and not 64 ft.
