Lowest levels of hormone would be when ob genes are mutated

Highest levels of hormone would be when db genes are mutated.

Further Explanation:

Colemanhypothesis states that ob+ genes codes for an appetite suppressing hormone. The amount of adipose tissue determines the production of this hormone. Also, db+ genes codes for receptor of the same hormone. So, mutations in these genes might have the following effects:When ob genes are mutated, production of functional appetite suppressing hormone stops. When db genes are mutated, production of functional receptors for the same hormone stops.

So, if the mutation occurs in both the ob genes, the production of appetite suppressing hormone stops and thus, the mice would gain the highest weight. If the mutation occurs in both the db genes, there would be no receptor to respond to the hormone produced. The mice would gain fat and produce the hormone in turn. And the hormone level would be abnormally high. Thus, lowest levels of hormone would be there in the mutated ob genes and highest levels of the hormone would be in the mutated db genes.

The hypothesis by Coleman was that the product of the ob+ gene was the appetite suppressing hormone. Hence, the homozygous ob/ob mutant are in a position to synthesize that hormone, and its circulating level would be zero. He also hypothesized that the product of the db+ gene was the receptor for the appetite-suppressing hormone. Thus, the homozygous db/db mutant would be able to synthesize the hormone but would not be in a position to respond to it. It would eat excessively and produce large amounts of body fat, which in turn would produce large amounts of appetite-suppressing hormone . In the absence of a receptor, the db/db mutant's hormone level would remain abnormally high.
Coleman's hypothesis were confirmed when the precise functions of the ob+ and db+ genes were determined. The peptide hormone encoded by the ob+ gene was named Leptin.

1 A negative result of monoculture farming is...
rodikova [14]

A negative result of monoculture farming is a decrease in mineral nutrients in soil.

Explanation:

When only one type of crop or plant variety is grown in a farming land at a certain period of time, it refers to Mono culture. It is a farming technique that is used industrial and also in organic way of farming. It is an efficient way for harvesting a particular species based on the season that supports their growth. The same way it also has disadvantages too. It can introduce many number of diseases and pests in the farming land.

The process of planting and harvesting the same plant variety in an area over a period of time will lead to the removal of nutrients that are present in that particular area. This is because the all the plants will be dependent on the same type of nutrients present in the soil and they will take that type abundantly. This will result in the eradication of that nutrient type from the soil resulting in making the soil very weak. Hence that farm area will not be suitable for growing other crops in a healthier way. This will lead to the use of fertilizers by the farmers that will again eradicate the soil nutrients.

Why are unsaturated fatty acids particularly abundant in the cellular membranes of antarctic fish?
Nutka1998 [239]
Antarctic fish species requires an adaptation to cold environment. Living at cold temperature environment would demand certain biological responses such as cutaneous respiration, enlarged blood vessels, and producing greater amounts of fat. Most of these fat are composed of higher phospolipid levels which are primarily due to phosphatidylethanolamine. This phospolipid is responsible for destabilizing cell membranes and make it more fluid thereby allowing unrestricted blood flow. The fatty acid composition of the membrane lipid is important for membrane fluidity, this is mainly attributed to unsaturated fatty acids which are responsible for decreasing the order of membrane lipids thereby decreasing viscosity. At extremely low temperatures, organisms with low concentration of unsaturated fatty acids would freeze cell membranes. That's why antarctic fishes have higher levels of unsaturated fatty acids.
