That's because we now have more efficient technologies and care that allow players to recover quickly, unlike past generation athletes who had to recover with archaic methods and lower quality equipment.

The fillings used by quarterbacks are much higher than those used in the past. This enhancement promotes greater safety for players and allows injuries of better intensity. The same happened with the helmets that protect the players head. In addition, there are currently a variety of physicians, physiotherapists and other types of therapists who can assist in recovery from the atleast.
