In regions that receive significant amounts of acid rain, periphytic algae are observed coating rocks, plants, and other submerg

ed objects in lakes and ponds. What role does acid rain play in the increased population of periphytic algae?
A. The change in pH destroys herbivores present in the lake.
B. Algae come down along with acid rain and infest the water bodies.
C. Algae are formed by the rotting of submerged objects due to acid rain.
D. Acid rain adds nutrients essential for the growth of algae to the water bodies.

I believe the correct answer is that the change in pH would destroy the herbivores present in the lake. Due to the increase in pH algae could not survive in the lakes so they find other places wherein they could reproduce therefore increasing the population of periphytic algae.

A new kind of tulip is produced that develops only purple or pink flowers. Assume that flower color is controlled by a single-ge
g100num [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

the purple allele (C) is dominant to the pink allele (c).

The frequency of C represents p while that of c represent q. Using the formula p+q= 1

The proportion of pink flower is 153/1000 = 0.153. This is also the frequency of the genotype cc (q^2).

Thud to find q which is the frequency of the c allele,

q = √0.153

q = 0.3912

From the formula p +q = 1 we can find p p = 1 - 0.3912

p which is the frequency of the C allele

p = 0.6088.

B. the proportion of all purple flowering plants that are heterozygotes and homozygotes is 847 / 1000 = 0.847

Which statements accurately describe the roles of decomposers in the carbon cycle?
ollegr [7]

Answer:

The question is incomplete, here's the complete question;

Which statements accurately describe the roles of decomposers in the carbon cycle? Check all that apply.

-Decomposers release carbon dioxide into the air as waste.

-Decomposers remove carbon dioxide from the air during photosynthesis.

-Decomposers break down the remains of dead plants and animals.

-Decomposers return carbon compounds to the soil.

-Decomposers use carbon to make food molecules.

The correct answer is;

Decomposers release carbon dioxide into the air as waste.

Decomposers break down the remains of dead plants and animals.

Decomposers return carbon compounds to the soil.

Explanation:

In the earth, all living things are made up of carbon. Carbon cycle is the process in which carbon travels from the atmosphere into living things in the earth and then returned into the atmosphere. Carbon is released into the atmosphere through processes like respiration, decomposition, combustion etc. The carbon cycle explains how carbon is stored, made available to living things and replaced on earth. Plants absorb carbon in the form of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use it to produce food (glucose) and release oxygen in a process called photosynthesis. When animals feed on these plants , the carbon is transferred to them and thus passes it along the food chain. During respiration, animals release carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. When the organisms eventually die, the carbon from them is put back into the atmosphere by decomposers so that other living organisms can use it. Decomposers break down dead organisms , releases carbon dioxide through cellular respiration and enriches the soil with nutrients. The examples of decomposers are bacteria, fungi and worms. Bacteria decomposes most types of organic matter. Fungi are the main decomposers in the forest as they break down wood and the cellulose in plant cell walls. Decomposers are very important because they release carbon locked up in the dead organisms back into the atmosphere and without carbon dioxide in the atmosphere plants can not produce glucose and oxygen.

Explain why an individual that is heterozygous for this inversion would be partially sterile
Ipatiy [6.2K]
Heterozygotes for inversion have a serious problem chromosome pairing at meiosis and recombination within the characteristic loop leads to chromosome duplication, deficiencies and in some cases two centro meters after recombination in meiosis.The abnormalities are usually not recovered in next generation because gametes or zygotes are receiving them are in-viable.
