Answer:

The first option i.e. (8 in × 10 in × 10 in) will be our choice.

Step-by-step explanation:

Each of the cartons shown here has the same volume i.e. 800 cubic inches.

Therefore, the carton having the least surface area will require the least amount of cardboard for each cubic inch of volume.

2(LW + WH + LH) is the surface area of a cuboid with dimensions L × W × H.

Now, in the first option of cardboard with dimension 8 in × 10 in × 10 in, will have surface are = 2(8 × 10 + 10 × 10 + 8 × 10) = 520 sq, inches.

Now, in the second option of cardboard with dimension 5 in × 8 in × 20 in, will have surface are = 2(5 × 8 + 8 × 20 + 5 × 20) = 600 sq, inches.

Again, in the third option of cardboard with dimension 4 in × 10 in × 20 in, will have surface are = 2(4 × 10 + 10 × 20 + 4 × 20) = 640 sq, inches.

Finally, in the fourth option of cardboard with dimension 2 in × 10 in × 40 in, will have surface are = 2(2× 10 + 10 × 40 + 2 × 40) = 1000 sq, inches.

Hence, the first option will be our choice. (Answer)

Answer:

  • <u>0.075 m/min</u>

Explanation:

You need to use derivatives which is an advanced concept used in calculus.

<u>1. Write the equation for the volume of the cone:</u>

      V=\dfrac{1}{3}\pi r^2h

<u />

<u>2. Find the relation between the radius and the height:</u>

  • r = diameter/2 = 5m/2 = 2.5m
  • h = 5.2m
  • h/r =5.2 / 2.5 = 2.08

<u>3. Filling the tank:</u>

Call y the height of water and x the horizontal distance from the axis of symmetry of the cone to the wall for the surface of water, when the cone is being filled.

The ratio x/y is the same r/h

  • x/y=r/h
  • y = x . h / r

The volume of water inside the cone is:

        V=\dfrac{1}{3}\pi x^2y

        V=\dfrac{1}{3}\pi x^2(2.08)\cdot x\\\\\\V=\dfrac{2.08}{3}\pi x^3

<u>4. Find the derivative of the volume of water with respect to time:</u>

            \dfrac{dV}{dt}=2.08\pi x^2\dfrac{dx}{dt}

<u>5. Find x² when the volume of water is 8π m³:</u>

       V=\dfrac{2.08}{3}\pi x^3\\\\\\8\pi=\dfrac{2.08}{3}\pi x^3\\\\\\  11.53846=x^3\\ \\ \\ x=2.25969\\ \\ \\ x^2=5.1062m²

<u>6. Solve for dx/dt:</u>

      1.2m^3/min=2.08\pi(5.1062m^2)\dfrac{dx}{dt}

      \dfrac{dx}{dt}=0.03596m/min

<u />

<u>7. Find dh/dt:</u>

From y/x = h/r = 2.08:

        y=2.08x\\\\\\\dfrac{dy}{dx}=2.08\dfrac{dx}{dt}\\\\\\\dfrac{dy}{dt}=2.08(0.035964m/min)=0.0748m/min\approx0.075m/min

That is the rate at which the water level is rising when there is 8π m³ of water.

Prove 11^10 - 1 is divisible by 100
Rom4ik [11]
<span>Assume 11^10 - 1 = 0 (mod 100) (i.e. 11^10 - 1 is divisible by 100). 11^10 - 1 = 0 (mod 100) 11^10 = 1 (mod 100) (11^2)^5 = 1 (mod 100) (121)^5 = 1 (mod 100) (21)^5 = 1 (mod 100) [the remainder of 121 divided by 100 is 21] (21^2)^2(21) = 1 (mod 100) (41)^2(21) = 1 (mod 100) 81(21) = 1 (mod 100) 1701 = 1 (mod 100) ∴ 11^10 - 1 is divisible by 100.</span>

A travel company sells holidays and wants to survey 500 customers stratified by country visited, complete the table.
OlgaM077 [116]

Answer:

\left|\begin{array}{c|c|c|c|c||c}$Country Visited&$UK& $France& $Spain& $Italy &$Total\\&&&&&\\$Number of Customers &968& 248& 2042& 742& 4000\\&&&&&\\$Number of sample&121&31&255&93&500\end{array}\right|

Step-by-step explanation:

\left|\begin{array}{c|c|c|c|c||c}$Country Visited&$UK& $France& $Spain& $Italy &$Total\\$Number of Customers &968& 248& 2042& 742& 4000\\$Number of sample&&&&&&\end{array}\right|

Since the company wants to survey 500 customers by the countries visited, the number of samples from each country will be proportional to the number of customers.

For UK, Number of Samples=\dfrac{968}{4000}X500=121

For France, Number of Samples=\dfrac{248}{4000}X500=31

For Spain, Number of Samples=\dfrac{2042}{4000}X500\approx 255

For Italy, Number of Samples=\dfrac{742}{4000}X500\approx 93

The completed table therefore is:

\left|\begin{array}{c|c|c|c|c||c}$Country Visited&$UK& $France& $Spain& $Italy &$Total\\&&&&&\\$Number of Customers &968& 248& 2042& 742& 4000\\&&&&&\\$Number of sample&121&31&255&93&500\end{array}\right|
