The nurse must inform the client that meditation helps make the mind calm and relieve the body from stress by using rhythmic breathing. The client can also be provided with educational material related to meditation.

Further Explanation:

The body is trained through fitness; likewise, the mind is trained using meditation. The process of training the mind to redirect and focus the thoughts to create awareness of the surroundings and also develop concentration and reduce stress is called meditation. Some people practice meditation for emotional health as well as for the improvement of physical well being.

The different types of meditations are:

 • Guided meditation: In this meditation, a person forms images in mind of situations or places that make him, or she relaxes. The guided meditation is generally practiced with a teacher or guide.
 • Mantra meditation: During mantra meditation, a person recites a mantra repeatedly but silently to avoid distracting or disturbing thoughts.
 • Mindfulness meditation: This meditation involves the acceptance and awareness of the mind to live or enjoy the present moment. During mindfulness meditation, a person’s conscious awareness broadens, and he/she observe emotions and thoughts without any judgment.
 • Tai chi: It is a form of Chinese martial arts in which a series of postures are performed deliberately while taking deep breaths.
 • Yoga: In yoga, one performs controlled breathing and different postures to achieve a flexible body and a stable mind.

When a client asks for any information regarding meditation, the nurse must provide him/her with an educational material if possible. She must also guide them about the usefulness of meditation, such as stress relief, peaceful mind, concentration, and awareness of the surrounding. A nurse can also inform the client about certain medical conditions that can be cured through meditation, for example, asthma, anxiety, depression, sleeps problems, and headaches.
