Solve this system of equations: y = x2 – 3x + 12 y = –2x + 14 1.Isolate one variable in the system of equations, if needed. y =

x2 – 3x + 12 y = –2x + 14 2.Use substitution to create a one-variable equation. –2x + 14 = x2 – 3x + 12 3.Solve to determine the unknown variable in the equation. What are the values of x?

-2x+14=x²-3x+12
add 2x on both side:
14=x²-x+12
subtract 14 on both side:
x²-x-2=0
factor: (x-2)(x+1)=0
x=2 or x=-1

The resulting equation will be

x^2 - x - 2 =0
x^2 -2x +x -2 = 0
(x-2)(x+1) = 0
x= 2 and x = -1

Hope this will help☺☺

Fittoniya [83]

We are given a function of the bouncing of the ball expressed as f(n) = 9(0.7)n in which n is an integer as the number of times the ball has dropped. 9 represents the initial height of the ball and 0.7 is the percent of which the height is reserved

Find S18 for geometric series given a5=-6 and a2= -48
Ganezh [65]

an = a1r^(n-1)

a5 = a1 r^(5-1)

-6 =a1 r^4

a2 = a1 r^(2-1)

-48 = a1 r

divide

-6 =a1 r^4

----------------    yields   1/8 = r^3      take the cube root  or each side

-48 = a1 r                     1/2 = r

an = a1r^(n-1)

an = a1 (1/2)^ (n-1)

-48 = a1 (1/2) ^1

divide by 1/2

-96 = a1

an = -96 (1/2)^ (n-1)

the sum

Sn = a1[(r^n - 1/(r - 1)]

S18 = -96 [( (1/2) ^17 -1/ (1/2 -1)]

       =-96 [ (1/2) ^ 17 -1 /-1/2]

      = 192 * [-131071/131072]

 approximately -192
